There are some elements of dreams that a lot of people have – below are five that are quite common, and a brief sense of what they can mean. The interpretation of any dream belongs to God, and will be specifically tailored for you (isn’t that cool?!) – the thoughts below are a good starting point to start to understand what your dreams mean. Remember that dreams are given to start a conversation with you about something the Spirit of Truth wants to highlight with you.
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. John 16 v 13
Falling
Typically if you’re falling in a dream it points to some part of life that could be out of control, or that you feel you’re losing control or growing anxious. For some, landing after falling can be a relief and an unwinding from the anxiousness of the event. Why would God give you this? Maybe it’s to let you know He knows – and to give your anxiety to Him. Talk to Him about it and ask for His peace.
Teeth
Teeth are what you chew with – and so they are about pondering and thinking things through and digesting ideas (wisdom anyone?). Losing teeth can mean there is a loss or difficulty in understanding something. What else is in the dream? This can give you a sense of what you’re struggling to chew on. How are your teeth dreams going? Anyone had any teeth dreams recently?
Bathroom
Bathroom dreams are very common – you’re not weird if you have a dream about using the bathroom! It can be God saying that He’s cleansing, flushing, healing an area of your life (or is wanting to). The state of the bathroom can tell you about whether you are in a supportive place that is equipped to help you do this or not. If not, you may need to find help elsewhere.
Sitting a test
Typically this is for promotion (yay!), it can mean that you are or have been going through a difficult time but it is for a purpose. Will you pass or not? (tip: He probably wants you too!) Deut 8 v 16 He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.
Wallet / Purse
Wallets or purses can contain your identity, and/or money – so dreams about these these can be about the identity that you carry in God, or favour with God or man. They can be about the ability to pay the price to do what you are made to do. If you lose your wallet or purse, perhaps God is communicating that you’ve lost (or are looking for) your purpose, identity or favour – which means that He knows and you can pray and ask Him to help you find it again.
What next?
We’re teaching in detail about what dreams mean and how to interpret them in the Understanding Dreams & Visions course coming up on 6-8 October.
Earlybird registration closes on 31 August. If you dream, we’d love to be able to serve you and help you better understand how God is speaking to you through them.
Monthly mentoring nights start next month for our alumni who have taken The Art of Hearing God courses. Email Cherie if you are a course alumni and wish to come.
Have you dreamed about these things? Leave us a comment below with your thoughts!
Blessings to dream dreams from the Spirit of Truth, love Cherie & Matt
Hi Cherie,
I was at the meeting last night in Pakaranga. What was said and demonstrated was the very thing I needed to know. And I loved it.
I will certainly be writing down any dreams in the future and am asking God to bless me with dreams. I want to hear more and more from God.
So thank you for your ministry , encouragement and joy in Him.
Bless you and your family this Christmas,
Mary
I know this is an older blog, but oddly enough, I did recently have a dream about teeth. Someone insisted that my teeth were rotting, but I had just been to the dentist and he said my teeth were in excellent shape. I told the person nicely but in no uncertain terms that my teeth were, indeed, fine. When I woke up, I knew this meant that the person (an actual person in my life) would not believe the word God gave me and would dispute it, but the word was true. This actually happened. In the dream, the person was so insistent that they tried to pry my mouth open to see. I had to remove their hands from my face. I appreciated the dream because under the anger and insistence, the person was afraid of what the word in my life meant for them. So it was a heads up that they would need some extra encouragement and comfort from me. Thanks for your notes. I’m so grateful you are putting this information out, and thrilled to have the opportunity to learn more.
